Indigenous Employment Program

Jobs Australia Midland has a long and successful history of working with local business to source suitable staff, and of working in the community to assist unemployed people find and retain jobs.

Through our membership of the Indigenous Employment Panel, we have been successful in sourcing funds to deliver a local Aboriginal Employment Project.  This project has been tailored by us to meet local needs – the needs of Aboriginal people who want sustainable jobs, and the needs of business – who need skilled and motivated staff who understand employer expectations.

In a tight labour market, with skills shortages impacting now and projections indicating more to come, it makes sense to put in place strategies for the future.  This project could well be one of those strategies for your business.

The project is coordinated by Karen Kickett – a well respected Aboriginal woman with many years experience working across all sections of the community.

We will provide support and assistance to business to encourage them to offer job opportunities to Aboriginal people including:

  • Assisting business access wage subsidies; establish trainee or apprenticeships, or offer other incentives
  • Providing ongoing mentoring and support to employers and employees to encourage long term employment.
  • Offering cross cultural awareness workshops to businesses and their staff.
  • Assisting businesses implement realistic strategies to underpin their Indigenous Employment Policies, particularly those contracting to the government, mining and resource sectors.
  • Ensuring employees have an understanding of employer needs through their participation in employment preparation training.
  • Arranging and funding pre-employment accredited and non accredited vocational skills training.
  • Arranging and funding licences such as White Card; Responsible Service of Alcohol; Working with Children checks etc.
  • Matching job opportunities with the employees goals – so that you will be referred people who want to work in your sector.
